Deliver Us from Evil : Movie Review

A hot summer Friday night, a perfect time for a scary movie! (No spoilers…)

The movie is based on the real life events of Ralph Sarchie, from his book, 2001 non-fiction book entitled Beware the Night by Ralph Sarchie and Lisa Collier Cool.

He is a New York cop who meets a Castilian priest and is pulled into a case which the priest convinces him, against the his religious beliefs, is demonically related. With help from the priest, Ralph puts down a demon, (through exorcism), that has possessed a man who unleashed terror on the street of New York. After this event, he leaves the police force to join the priest in a quest to combat demonic evil.

I am being careful to not give you too much here. I think this scary movie is a must see. Instead of relying on gore and shock, the movie is carefully crafted to use suspense. The special effects were great to climax the moments and yes, there were at least five good “gotacha” moments that made me jump. The actors were good in they conveyed the story well, but the real gem is the direction and editing that created the suspense. A very well put together scary movie, great story telling and awesome suspense. I would give this an 8 out of 10.

‘till next time, no nightmares!

“The Conjuring” a very good scare!

Well I must admit, this movie did scare me and almost had me scream like a little girl! They did an awesome job of building suspense, drawing you in with little jumps, then bang! And the audience screams! Awesome! I left with a great adrenaline high and a thought of not ever wanting to play with antique music boxes.

Looking for ideas and tips for creating your own scary movie? This one did a great job of using suspense with minimal props and special effects.

Until next time, “no nightmares!”
